The Patient Care Technician assists the patient care team by providing direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performing clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of department services. All duties are performed in collaboration with team members, adhering to standards outlined in the competency-based/evaluation tool. The PCT participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated to the team, demonstrating a commitment to quality service for patients, the public, and co-workers.

Responsibilities:
- Assists with patient transport and transfer within the department and hospital.
- Administers oxygen via nasal cannula, NRB, and BVM.
- Applies NIBP, ECG electrodes, pulse oximetry, and end-tidal CO2 for central monitoring of patients.
- Assists with responding to patient call lights and/or family requests and refers appropriately.
- Assures patient safety by demonstrating age-appropriate skills when assisting with nursing care activities as directed by licensed nursing personnel.
- Performs duties generally supportive to the activities of daily living for patients, which do not require nursing assessment skills during their performance.
- Performs unit-related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Director or designee.
- Attends appropriate in-service and educational programs commensurate with job responsibilities.
- Floats to various units as requested.
- Accepts assignments under the direction of the Charge RN or designee.
- Immediately reports changes in patient condition to the primary care RN.
- Completes assignments and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changes in workload.
- Accurately obtains, documents, and reports vital signs and rechecks as needed, reporting abnormal findings to the primary RN or Charge RN.
- Accurately measures and documents intake and output as needed.
- Performs capillary blood glucose testing utilizing proper technique and equipment, documents results, and reports abnormal results to RN.
- Performs ECGs.
- Maintains and supports patients' rights to care, privacy, and respect.
- Participates in unit/hospital projects that seek to improve patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire
- 1 year of Acute care experience
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CNA license
- Travel experience
Special Considerations:
- Local candidates preferred
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
Scheduling:
- Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- 3x12s or 4x12s, 36 or 48 hours per week
- Option for candidates to work 48 hours per week with OT after 48 hours
